Many homeowners treat their room’s flooring as an afterthought.  However, they should pay more attention to it, especially during a bathroom remodeling project.  LuxStone™ of Colorado, one of Colorado's trusted bathtub replacement contractors, elaborates on the reason below.

  1. Moisture – Your bathroom’s flooring needs to be durable enough due to the high moisture levels.  Water from faucets, tubs, and showers can seep into your tile floor, potentially causing rot in the ceiling beneath.

  2. Slippery Floors – There’s also the issue of slips.  Certain types of flooring, when wet, can become especially slippery.  As such, you need to do your research before choosing a tile for your bathroom.

Options Available to You

  1. Before we go through the pros and cons of different floor tiles, you should remember that wooden floors are a bad choice for bathrooms.  This may seem like a no-brainer, but manufacturers have been producing engineered wood, which can resist moisture better than traditional wood.  Still, no matter how well the wood is protected, it will eventually suffer moisture damage.
  2. Natural Stone – Marble, granite, and limestone are highly durable, stylish, and waterproof, and can significantly increase the resale value of your house.  Due to the cost of natural stone tiles, however, we recommend only hiring bathroom remodeling contractors to ensure you make the most of your investment.

  3. Porcelain Tiles – Porcelain tiles are the go-to choice for homeowners.  This material is waterproof, aesthetically pleasing, cost-effective, and easy to clean.   However, porcelain tiles can be slippery, so we suggest using smaller tiles with wider grout lines for added friction.

  4. Sheet Vinyl Flooring – If you have kids, we recommend installing sheet vinyl flooring.  Kids love to splash around in the bathroom, so you’ll need waterproof flooring, which this option will provide.
